Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA), a new surgical method for treating dogs with deficient cranial cruciate ligament, was developed at the U. of Zurich, by Dr. Slobodan Tepic and Prof. Pierre Montavon, where most of the first 150 cases were treated during 02/'03.TTA advancing tibial insertion of the patellar ligament cranially by a predetermined amount so as to place the ligament at 90 degrees to the tibial plateau with the knee extended - leads to only a slight modification of the geometry of the knee, yet it renders it stable throughout its functional range. Morbidity of the method is low, facilitating a fast recovery to function.

To date, 20000 TTA surgeries has been performed worldwide and there are 350 veterinarians doing TTA procedure worldwide. For more information on TTA  and list of surgeons doing TTA in your area please check www.kyon.ch

The tibial plateau leveling osteotomy, or TPLO, is used to neutralize the effect of the upper leg bone (femur) rolling forward on the lower leg bone (tibia). The procedure levels the lower part of the knee joint (tibial plateau), thereby eliminating the need for the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) to act as a restraint. In other words, thinking of the ACL as a cable restraining a car from rolling downhill, this procedure levels the surface and eliminates the need for the cable. Injuries to the joint cushioning material (meniscus) can also be corrected during the surgery to prevent further arthritic changes in the joint.

Please note that Dr. Natt is not board certified in surgery but has special interest in orthopedic surgeries like fracture repair, TTA, TPLO and soft tissue surgeries. He has recieved training in TTA,TPLO, corrective osteotomies, fracture repair (basic and advanced), external fixators and arthroscopy.
